Most of you who know me in person will know I have no problems with cosmetic surgery, in fact I have plans for some minor tweaks I am keen on as I’m getting older, however it’s a well-known fact that people quite simply get addicted to cosmetic surgery and end up looking worse than before. A lot of my friends have the same reaction when I tell them what I intend on doing: expressions of shock and horror alarmingly displayed all over their posh skincare’d-faces as if someone left an unannounced stinker in the room but the thing is, I don’t want to change my appearance – I merely want to enhance it. Last week a friend, after learning of my…uhm facial renovations plans, said to me that we are designed to age and we’re not supposed to ‘inject stuff into our faces’ to stop that. I guess there is some truth in it but its clearly something New Yorker, Justin Jedlica, did not think about after having already had 90+ procedures to make him look like the real life Ken doll.

Meet Justin Jedlica, the real life Ken doll!
Designed by Mattel Toys in 1961, Ken arrived on the scene to provide the famed plastic blonde-bombshell, Barbie, with some companionship as she was hopping and skipping along in her pink, artificial world where everything was perfect. Similar to his female companion he was pretty much perfect, in a plastic-y kind of way, which I guess is why the real-life Ken, as he is known as now, decided to cut and reconstruct himself to look like this perfect plastic chap. So far he has undergone an astonishing 90+ cosmetic procedures including five nose jobs, and 13 butt injections and he is still not done, apparently. His obsession with cosmetic surgery started at a very young age and had his first rhinoplasty (a nose job) at 18 years old. Four years later he had his vision corrected and his teeth bonded and bleached as part of his mission to be absolutely perfect. In addition to five nose jobs, Justin has had cheek and chin fillers, lip injections and a cranial brow lift – totalling his spend on cosmetic surgery to over £40,000 on his face alone. It’s all good and well to have this done but you need to maintain it so unusual ‘Ken’ spends thousands on skin rejuvenation, chemical peels and full body laser hair removal.

Justin, then and now
His surgery did not stop with just the face. Since 2006, Justin has had pectoral implants and bicep and tricep implants and a jaw-dropping 13 rounds of fillers to plump up his backside! His most recent surgery, last December, was groundbreaking three-part shoulder implant surgery, something that makes me cringe and curl up into a ball even just by typing that out. Now, this my friends, I agree is NOT how it should be done. This is clearly an obsession that has spiralled out of control and I honestly believe this man will never be happy with what he looks like. He’s had a taste (if you can taste something 90+ times) of the thrill it gives him and by the sound of things, it looks like he not going to give it up anytime soon. I can safely say for all of those concerned, I have no intention of Ken-nifying myself. Even I am shocked at this. Now that is shocking!
When I was a little boy my mum taught me to never judge a book by its cover which is why I can’t sit here and judge the way Justin looks. To some he may look rather handsome, to some he may look like a freak but at the end of the day we are not in a position to judge this man on the decisions he has made in his life. One thing I will grant him is that turning yourself into the real life Ken doll is one hell of an accomplishment, whether its strange or not!
